Improving treatment and care for people with Cancer and Other Long Term Conditions
Company Name: Macmillan Cancer Support

We worked with Macmillan Cancer Support to undertake research with people across the UK to better understand people’s experience living with Cancer and Other Long Term Health Conditions. Working with delivery partners, Cysters, we designed and delivered a consultation process, recruiting 65 people with lived experience across all four UK nations, and an intersection of population groups.
The consultation broadly focused on four thematic areas:
- General experience managing Cancer and Other Long Term Conditions and the impact on daily life
- Experience in clinical spaces
- Support in community settings
- Shared decision making
Workshops and 1-1s with healthcare professionals explored a parallel set of questions, exploring: healthcare professionals’ understanding and tools for supporting patients with Cancer and Other Long Term Conditions; communication and information sharing, both with patients and between healthcare professionals; and the barriers to, and ideal practice of, shared decision making.
